PHOTO ARCHIVIST’S SELECTION OF THE MONTH: JUNE 2003

A Family Photo Album

The family explained

The Isaac and
Franklin Wardwell
Family Photos

This explanatory sheet was with the photos.

This is a complementary issue to the January 2003 selection. As we saw then, Franklin Wardwell was very interested in good photos. A number of photos below, many of them taken around 1900, show the eye of either a gifted amateur or a professional photographer.

Most prints we have of the above were made from glass plates at a much later date by Society volunteers. The plates may have deteriorated by then: Some of the prints are not very good and required a lot of editing for this page. Some flaws could not be edited out.

His twin sister Betsy, who survived him, married the Reverend William C. Hoyt in 1838.
Isaac was obviously greatly attached to her.

An unidentified photo. Sitting on the steps is Franklin Wardwell, it seems. The other couple may be either his brother Claison and wife, or Helen's sister Susan and spouse.
